Suzuki unveils its first UK estate car
November 11, 2020
Suzuki has announced that its second new model in collaboration with Toyota is on its way following the launch of the Across SUV and the other good news is the car will be built in the UK.
It is called the Swace and will be Suzuki’s first estate car for the UK market. Based on the Toyota Corolla, the Swace will be made at the Toyota factory in Burnaston in Derbyshire.
The attractive looking vehicle will be priced from £27,499 for the entry-level SZ-T trim or £29,299 in higher SZ5 specification. These prices are competitive with its Toyota counterpart and both vehicles have hybrid powertrains.
The Swace is equipped with an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen with AM/FM/DAB radio, Bluetooth, and controls on the steering wheel for ease of use. The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay for iPhone, as well as Android Auto and MirrorLink for compatible smartphones.
In SZ-T grade, the Swace has heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone air conditioning, a rear parking camera, dynamic cruise control and seven airbags,
The SZ5 gains a centre console tray incorporating a wireless charger, automatic door locking, front and rear park distance sensors, parking aids, a blind spot monitoring system and rear cross traffic alert.
The hybrid powertrain uses a 1.8-litre petrol engine that is mated to an electric motor which together deliver 122hp. Official figures under stricter WLTP testing show the Swace can return a combined 64.2mpg with carbon emissions of 99g/km.
Performance statistics are similar to the Toyota with the Swace having a 0-60mph sprint time of 11.1 seconds and a top speed of 111mph.
When it comes to storage, the boot can accommodate 596 litres of luggage, but this capacity increases to 1,606 litres with the rear seats folded. The boot has an adjustable floor which can be dropped to make room for taller items or flipped over to reveal a resin-coated covering that is ideal for stowing wet or muddy items.
There are three drive modes to help maximise the fuel efficiency with additional modes for eco and sporty driving, plus an EV button for zero-emission performance in urban areas.
Like its sibling Toyota Corolla, the Swace is a self-charging hybrid that does not need to be plugged in and can operate purely on electricity for short distances.
