SEAT sets clever camera challenge to tourists

July 28, 2016

A German couple has risen to the challenge of driving the all-new SEAT Ateca with all the windows covered up using only the Top View camera which offers a 360-degree view around the car.

The test took place on a closed urban circuit under the supervision and guidance of skilled instructors as a SEAT spokesman explained: “We were close to the beachfront in Barcelona, looking for volunteers to take on our challenge and drive around in a vehicle with all the windows covered up. Can it be done?”

Stefan, a German tourist didn’t think it was possible but said he was willing to give it a go.

So he and his wife were directed to the closed urban circuit where a SEAT Ateca was waiting with an instructor who was on board at all times. Stefan could only navigate by using the screen, which offers a 360-degree view around the car thanks to the four cameras that are installed in the vehicle. A top view image is shown inside on the monitor, an especially handy feature when manoeuvring into a parking space.

Stefan was joined by an instructor in the front passenger seat: “All you have to do is drive within the lines,” he said, and the challenge began. “This is great!” exclaimed Stefan. “I can’t see a thing outside, but it works!”

“How’s it going?” asked his wife from the rear seat. “Easy!” said Stefan with a smile. And the rest of the challenge went off without a hitch, full of laughter and excitement. Driving forward, driving in reverse; turning to the right and left. The screen offers precise navigation, at times leaving the volunteers speechless.

“What a fantastic experience. And what a great feature,” he admitted after completing the circuit.
