Chevrolet Lacetti 1.6 SX Station Wagon

It’s a fact, the Chevrolet Lacetti is never going to win many prizes in a beauty contest and it will not leave that many rivals standing at the lights, but when it comes to value for money it really is head and shoulders above the rest… or should that be roof and wheel arches!

You see, crammed into this deceptively spacious vehicle is a host of quality features and a staggering 25 storage compartments, including a luggage area with nets.

And the real beauty is that all the creature comforts come as standard, unlike some manufacturers who charge for the smallest items such as floor mats.

Included on the Lacetti are an efficient air con system with a cooled glove box, alloy wheels, roof rails, electrically-adjustable mirrors and a great sound system. Although I have to say despite being a world-leading Blaupunkt model, the audio system was fitted with the smallest, fiddliest buttons and controls I have ever seen which is not exactly practical in a car.

The cabin is very spacious and there is ample room for five adults to travel in comfort and, needless to say, those storage facilities mean they can take along all their goodies too.

The driver benefits from excellent all-round visibility which makes driving such a large vehicle in busy city centres a breeze.

Then, out on the more open road, the 1.6-litre engine delivered ample power. As I said earlier, the Lacetti is never going to claim many medals in the sprinting stakes, but when it comes to a marathon, it has all the credentials for success.

It is also kitted out with a host of safety equipment including anti-lock brakes, traction control, numerous airbags and plenty more.

All in all, the Lacetti has plenty of charm, performs well and is outstanding value for money. And it’s that quality that tops many people’s agenda these days.
