Mitsubishi Grandis 2.0 DI-D Equippe 5dr
In a day and age where value for money tops many buyers’ wish lists the Mitsubishi Grandis could be the perfect option.
You see this attractive looking vehicle with distinctive lines boasts great performance credentials, excellent comfort levels, versatility and a brilliant spec level showing that Mitsubishi has really put its 25 years’ experience in the multi-purpose vehicle business to full use.
Offering a more gentle, subtle side than its siblings the Shogun and L200, the Grandis delivers a perfect blend of off-roader capabilities complete with estate car versatility.
But, believe me, it’s no softy. The model supplied for my test drive – the Equippe – oozed quality features throughout, including remote central locking, a six speaker CD autochanger system, leather trim levels, cruise control, rear parking sensors, climate control and plenty more.
Up to seven occupants can enjoy the light and spacious cabin and the back two seats can easily and quickly be folded away to open up a vast storage area, which is complemented by the many useful storage compartments throughout the vehicle.
If I had to find fault, then the Grandis is not the quietest of vehicles and the turning lock is not the best either, but those are minor gripes in an otherwise excellent vehicle.
It handles like a family saloon and is both nimble and agile to manoeuvre in and around town and the driver benefits from excellent all-round visibility thanks to the high-seated position. Then out on the more open road, the 2.0-litre engine delivers plenty of oomph.
As one would expect, Mitsubishi has packed the Grandis with quality safety features such as anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution and numerous airbags including curtain airbags for the second and third row passengers.
It seems there could be nothing else to praise about the Grandis, but you would be wrong. The final accolade has to be its appealing price tag – a whole lot of MPV with a great warranty package all for less than £20k.
