Genesis electrifies its stunning GV70

July 11, 2022

The latest all-electrified Genesis model is now available for customers to pre-order with prices starting from £64,405.

The stylish five-door model completes the Korean carmaker’s line-up of EVs joining the already launched GV60 and all-electric G80.

With its global unveiling at this year’s Festival of Speed meeting at Goodwood, the electrified GV70 gained lots of attention, but now we have not only the pricing, but further details about the car itself.

We caught up with Andrew Pilkington, Genesis UK MD, at the Genesis Scottish Open golf tournament, where the car boasted a prominent position alongside the 18th green.

He said: “From Monday, July 11, customers can go online and put down a £1,000 deposit on the car. This would open up the opportunity to configure a car as a factory order or select one that has already been built and be one of the first people in the UK to drive an Electrified GV70.”

But he added that any interested customers should act quickly as the electrified models are proving very popular. “Our GV60 retail orders have really exceeded our expectations. We look at other brands and about 15 per cent of sales are retail. With the GV60, we have seen a far higher retail uptake at about 40 per cent.”

And the delivery times are good too as Andrew explained: “If customers select one of the early builds, we will be able to deliver that late September to early October. If they go away and configure a model, then probably towards the end of October into November.”

There’s no denying the Electrified GV70 is a head turner with its sleek lines, upright stance, sweeping headlights, black grille and long bonnet housing the Genesis badging. Tinted windows, striking rear lights and neat alloys complete the look.

The interior is high-end in its styling too with a wealth of on-board technology. While the final details of all features are yet to be confirmed, along with the vehicle’s boot capacity and top speed, the infotainment system will be like that seen in the GV70 which is a stunning single touchscreen that is the nerve centre of the vehicle.

Just like the GV60 EV, the Electrified GV70 will boast 483bhp with 700Nm of torque resulting in a 0-62mph sprint time of just 4.2 seconds and it can be charged via a fast charger from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes.

But whereas the GV60 is on sale in three trim levels called Premium, Sport and Sport Plus, at launch, there will be just one Electrified GV70 trim level called Sport Plus. It is hoped additional trim levels will be added from next year.

With a driving range of 287 miles between charges, the car features a Boost button that delivers an extra 20kW power to each motor for 10 seconds resulting in a maximum output of 360kW.

Single pedal driving is possible which is a benefit in busy city centres with lots of stop, start driving and it also features the same e-TERRAIN technology as first showcased in the GV70 and GV80. This helps to deliver a stable and comfortable driving experience in more demanding conditions.

Genesis has a unique way of dealing with its customers. The initial interest is generated online and then a potential customer is appointed a Genesis Personal Assistant, who takes them through the entire buying process. There is no haggling over pricing and there is a five-year plan for servicing, road side assistance and warranty that is fully transferable if the car is sold on. Cars are delivered and collected on a luxury transporter and a replacement vehicle is provided for any servicing requirements.

As well as making its mark at the highly-publicised Genesis Scottish Open, there was an extra treat in store as the company offered a car for the professional player (and his caddie) that hit a hole-in-one at the Par 3 17th.

That was accomplished on day two in blustery conditions by Englishman Jordan Smith who was handed the keys to an electrified GV70 and his caddie, Sam Matton, received an all-electric GV60.

A delighted Jordan said: “We’ve been chatting about it during the week saying that the pin on the front left could be a good chance for a hole in one and it just happened, to me, today!

“The wind was howling off the right but I struck a perfect six iron and it landed right of the pin and caught the slope and rolled in. Even though we couldn’t see it at the time we knew it went in as the crowd went nuts.”

Sam Matton, Jordan’s caddie added: “I’ve been looking for a new car recently and with my birthday at the end of the month, this is perfect timing – what an early birthday present! I finished caddying at the end of last season with Steven Brown and was going to take a break. I got a call from Jordan and the rest is history.”

Genesis has committed to the high-profile sponsorship of the Scottish Open for at least five years.
