A sneak preview of the Range Rover Velar
February 23, 2017
Land Rover has finally given us a sneak preview of its long-awaited, mid-range luxury SUV before the wraps are officially removed at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
The image of the fourth member of the Range Rover family shows the elegant-looking rear of the new car fitted with a panoramic glass roof. It will fit between the Evoque and the larger Range Rover Sport, “filling the white space,” between the two, says the company.
It is wider and higher than the Evoque and will be called the Range Rover Velar which was the codename given by Land Rover to the very first Range Rover prototypes in 1969.
Land Rover is keeping the finer details to itself at the moment, but the company promises “elegant simplicity, a visually reductive approach and pioneering consumer technology”.
Land Rover chief design officer, Gerry McGovern, said: “We call the Velar the avant garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything.”
Full details will be announced on March 1 ahead of its public unveiling in Geneva the following week.
