Red Bull Racing agree a deal for the Austrian Grand Prix to return in 2014

July 26, 2013

The Austrian energy drinks giant has recently announced that they have agreed a deal with Bernie Ecclestone to bring the Austrian Grand Prix back to the Formula 1 calendar in next year’s championship.
Red Bull, who have been involved in Formula 1 since 2005 where they debuted in the 2005 Australian Grand Prix, have quickly taken full command of the competition, winning both the Constructors Championship and the Drivers Championship consecutively since 2010.
It’s presumably on the back of this success that Dietrich Mateschitz, founder of Red Bull, bought the A1 Ring (previously the Osterreichring) in 2011. Following renovations and re-branding the track to be the Red Bull Ring, he has been in talks to offer his track to the calendar since 2012.
The return will mark the first Austrian Grand Prix in over a decade and is likely to be a more than welcome addition to the season. Though it’s yet to be seen how well Red Bull will perform there. The course is filled with long straights and higher speed corners, which opposes their traditional lower straight line speed and preference for medium speed cornering.
Back to this year’s season and Red Bull are still leading the way, with their German wunderkind Sebastian Vettel currently in the lead at 157 points and his teammate Mark Webber holding on in 5th place. The bookies have them well favoured for this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix as well, with the latest racing odds at Betfair.com tipping Vettel as the clear winner and some interesting odds for Hamilton and Button.
