Test Drive

Chevrolet Epica 2.0 LS 4dr

Chevrolet has a reputation for doing things big and the Epica is no exception to that rule.

The spec level is big as is its value for money, space and appeal. In fact, for the price of a family hatchback you can get yourself an executive saloon that’s not only guaranteed to turn heads thanks to its good looks but is absolutely crammed with quality features.

As soon as you enter the cabin, the space cannot fail to impress and with a driver’s seat that is electronically adjusted, finding the perfect driving position couldn’t be easier.

The model supplied for the test drive was the 2.0-litre LS which boasted a host of quality features.

These included a responsive air con system, electrically-operated front and rear windows, cruise control, a great audio system plus plenty more.

Although it times the Epica seemed to lack a little oomph in and around town, it certainly made up for that out on the open road where the 2.0-litre engine delivered ample power and acceleration.

Inside, there is plenty of space for up to five adults and the plentiful luggage compartment means they can bring along all their goodies too. The rear seats can be split and folded when needed so as to increase the load capacity and there is even a hook in the front passenger’s footwell for shopping bags along with a cooler in the glove box.

These little touches of luxury would see the pound signs soaring with many rival manufacturers but are supplied as standard through Chevrolet.

The safety specifications on the Epica are also comprehensive with anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, advanced suspension and stability features, numerous airbags plus lots more.

The only minor gripes I could mention after a week’s test drive are very minor ones – there is a little too much plastic on the dashboard for my liking and the drive was occasionally a bit noisy.

But to be honest, very small glitches on a real bargain of a vehicle.
