Test Drive

Peugeot 407 Sport HDi 140 FAP 4dr

Contrary to what anyone may think, business drivers are not stupid. They spend hours and hours clocking up the miles on our motorways and you can be pretty sure what they drive is comfortable, economical, stylish and generally a great all-round performer.

So, enter the Peugeot 407, which is loved by business motorists up and down the country and after a week behind the wheel it was easy to see just why.

I was supplied with a top-of-the-range Sport model, which was packed to bursting with quality features and top notch specifications throughout… and all for a price of about £22k.

Included as standard on this vehicle were front and rear parking sensors, half-leather upholstery, automatic lights, automatic wipers, dual-zone climate control, electrically-folding door mirrors, cruise control and bags more. In fact, every creature comfort that makes a long journey that little bit more endurable has been added.

Inside the cabin, there is ample space both front and rear and the generously-sized boot area is complemented by a number of smaller storage compartments scattered throughout.

The 2.0-litre engine delivered plenty of power both in and around town and out on the open road where it cruised along comfortably with the fuel gauge barely budging.

And as if that was not enough, the vehicle has been awarded top marks in the Euro NCAP safety awards and boasts features including anti-lock brakes, electronic stability programme, numerous airbags, and a great security system to keep away any unwanted attention.

So, it is comfortable, performs well, can deliver a combined economy figure of 50mpg and there are dozens of engine sizes, fuel types and designs to choose from – enough in fact to satisfy the pickiest of business drivers out there – so now you can see the appeal too.
