Peugeot 207 Economique + 1.6 HDi 90
If it’s value for money you are searching for in a car then look no further than the Peugeot 207.
Packed to the roof with classy features, the vehicle comes with no hidden extra costs and will set you back less than £15k, which in today’s climate is extremely good value.
It is quite hard to put the 207 into a particular market bracket as it has the looks to attract the fashion-conscious whilst offering the performance and safety features that are so important to those with a tighter budget.
With a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, the 207 Economique + supplied for my test drive was comfortable, spacious, deceptively powerful and offered a great all-round package.
This includes electric windows, air conditioning, remote central locking and an on-board computer.
And that’s not all as despite clocking up some serious mileage, the fuel gauge barely dropped – that’s down to the impressive combined fuel figure of more than 74mpg.
I did find one aspect to gripe about and that’s the wing mirrors. Firstly, they are too small which restricts visibility and secondly, the passenger side mirror had to be adjusted with a control on the passenger’s door – this means leaning across to make any corrections.
But that aside, the 207 delivered a fabulous drive that was accentuated by the spacious interior and comfortable seats.
All the controls and dials are ideally situated for ease of use leaving the driver to concentrate on the drive itself, and it doesn’t disappoint.
The 1.6-litre engine was responsive both in and around town and out on the open road, and the road-holding was excellent even on a slippery road surface.
The 207 is fitted with a host of safety features such as anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, numerous airbags plus lots more.
And it is available in a choice of spec levels and engine sizes so there is bound to be a 207 to suit all tastes and with a price tag that will leave you grinning all the way to the bank.
