Test Drive

Peugeot 107 Millesim (3-door)

There’s a popular saying that small is beautiful and that statement is perfectly backed up by Peugeot’s compact city car – the 107 – which despite its size, offers a fun-packed ride with plenty of top notch gadgets and creature comforts along the way.

With smooth lines, the 107 has body-coloured door handles and bumpers along with 14-inch alloys – it looks like a very up-market bumper car with the skill and agility to weave in and out of busy queues of traffic and you just know that when a tiny parking space appears, you’ll nip in there with ease.

But there’s more to the 107 than just city driving – the 1.0-litre petrol-driven engine has enough oomph to capably cope with faster roads and the five-speed manual transmission is both smooth and responsive.

Okay, so it’s not the fastest kid out the blocks, but when you take into consideration the asking price of just over £9.5k and the low tax costs, then the 107 has plenty of appeal.

The interior is light and spacious with room for rear seat passengers too. And despite its size, the boot can easily accommodate the weekly shopping and is further enhanced with the rear seats folded flat. Elsewhere, there are a number of handy storage compartments scattered throughout the cabin.

The special edition Millesim supplied for my test drive has been introduced as part of Peugeot’s 200-year celebrations. It is based on the Urban Plus model but has some additions such as striking blue seat trim, blue air vent surrounds, blue instruments and a unique Millesim 200 badge along with a choice of sporty colours.

Further creature comforts including a sound system with MP3 compatibility, air conditioning, neat and clear readouts, remote central locking and electric front windows.

As one would expect, Peugeot has fitted the 107 with a comprehensive list of top notch safety features which include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, cornering stability control, rear 3-point seatbelts, numerous airbags and plenty more besides.

The driver benefits from excellent all-round visibility and that just adds to the accolades for the 107 Millesim – the small car with a big personality which makes it perfect for the urban lifestyle.
