Summer arrival for all-new Volvo XC60
April 18, 2017
Volvo’s new XC60 SUV will go on sale towards the end of summer with a price-tag of £37,205 for the entry-level D4 AWD Momentum version.
It is the first of Volvo’s mid-sized 60 series of vehicles to be built on its scalable product architecture platform first seen on the larger XC90 SUV and is powered exclusively by Volvo’s Drive-E engines.
At launch there will be the choice of three 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engines – the D4 and D5 PowerPulse diesels, and the T5 petrol. A T8 Twin Engine petrol-electric plug-in hybrid will be available later in the year.
The D4 offers 190bhp, combined fuel efficiency of up to 55.4mpg and carbon emissions from 133g/km. The D5 has 235bhp, combined fuel consumption of 51.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 144g/km. The T5 delivers 254bhp, has combined fuel economy of up to 39.2mpg and emissions from 164g/km.
All XC60 models will feature all-wheel drive along with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
In addition, the new XC60 boasts much of the connectivity, entertainment and safety technology from the larger 90 series cars.
Standard equipment on entry-level Momentum models includes leather-faced upholstery, LED headlights with active high beam, 18-inch alloys, heated front seats, a powered tailgate and two-zone climate control.
Volvo’s city safety system is also fitted to every model. This introduces automatic emergency braking with pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection, and the world-first application of Steer Assist which helps to avoid or limit the severity of collisions at low speeds by assisting with the steering in an emergency, such as when swerving to miss an obstacle.
Pilot Assist, Volvo’s innovative semi-autonomous drive feature, is an option on all XC60 vehicles. It assists with the steering at speeds up to 80 mph and takes care of the acceleration and braking required to keep the car within lane markings and at the desired cruising speed or distance from any vehicle in front.
Jon Wakefield, managing director of Volvo Car UK, said: “We’re incredibly excited about the brand-new XC60. Not only does it bring all the style and advanced technology from our larger cars to our best-selling SUV, it is the latest step in Volvo’s transformation.”
