Vauxhall’s new Crossland X SUV

January 25, 2017

The ultra-popular SUV sector is about to embrace another newcomer – this time from Vauxhall.

Vauxhall-Crossland-X

The Crossland X  will be up against rivals such as the Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur and Vauxhall says the newcomer, which will go on sale this summer, has a firm family focus offering “Tardis-like” cabin space providing a high degree of practicality and flexibility.

It measures 4.21 metres in length making it more compact than the Mokka X, and a full 16cm shorter than the Astra hatchback. These compact dimensions will result in easier driving and manoeuvring in towns and cities. It also has the advantage of an elevated driving position and an overall height, which is raised 10cms above the Astra’s.

Another very practical feature of the new SUV is the ability to slide the rear seats back or forwards to allow more space for legroom or boot space. And speaking of boots, the Crossland X offers a class-leading 410 litres of space with the rear seats up. When the rear seats are dropped flat, this capacity increases to an impressive 1,255 litres,

The Crossland X will be richly kitted out with the latest technology to make driving safer and more comfortable, and it will feature a 180-degree panoramic rear-view camera, advanced park assist, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and autonomous emergency braking, speed sign recognition, lane departure warning and side blind-spot alert, plus plenty more besides.

Drivers will also benefit from the latest on-board connectivity set-up that is becoming the norm in Vauxhall models. The Vauxhall OnStar connectivity system, as well as the IntelliLink infotainment equipment which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keeps drivers connected via a colour touchscreen.

Vauxhall has not given details about what engines will power the Crossland X but says that an extensive petrol/diesel powertrain line-up with manual and automatic transmissions will be offered.

And although no prices have been announced for the newcomer, the entry level Crossland X is likely to come in at about the £15,000 mark.
