PSA Group’s plans are electrifying
June 9, 2016
Peugeot and Citroen have announced their new strategy for an electric and plug-in hybrid future at a special Innovation Day event where the PSA Group revealed its models will be developed on two platforms, allowing it to offer a wide range of vehicles from 2019.
One platform will be dedicated to city cars, saloons and compact SUVs, with a plan to introduce four electric models by 2021 – the first of which is due in the next three years.
The second platform – for compact and premium models – was initially launched in 2013 with the new Citroen C4 Picasso and Peugeot 308. From 2019 onwards, it will provide the first plug-in hybrid petrol models.
PSA director Gilles Le Borgne said: “These next-generation hybrid and electric technologies will complement our range of internal combustion engines, thereby enabling PSA Group to offer its customers a diversified line-up of technologies that meet all of their mobility needs.
“This innovative strategy clearly demonstrates the Group’s commitment to global, sustainable solutions that will allow us to take on the energy transition challenge.”
