SsangYong increases its Tivoli appeal
March 3, 2016
SsangYong is aiming to build on the success story that is its Tivoli model by unveiling the all-new Tivoli XLV which offers extra space and additional practicality.
It was revealed at this week’s Geneva Motor Show and company CEO Johng-sik Choi is confident the car will be very popular, stating: “Following rapid growth in the compact SUV market, we responded in 2015 by launching Tivoli, the first small SUV for SsangYong, and already the company’s most successful new car. About 64,000 cars were manufactured and sold around the world last year.
“Tivoli has been praised universally for meeting a wide range of customer requirements, not least its ability to carry five adults in comfort, and with one of the largest boot capacities in its sector.
“Now SsangYong has gone a step further by launching an extended car to provide even more carrying capacity and practicality – the XLV. This was shown as the XLV Air concept at the IAA motor show in Frankfurt last year, and from the extremely favourable feedback we received, took the decision to put the car into production.
“Following its international debut at Geneva, the SsangYong XLV will go on sale across Europe and around the world from May, and we forecast annual sales from the Tivoli platform including XLV will exceed 100,000 cars this year,” he added.
The XLV shares the same platform and 2,600mm wheelbase as the Tivoli, but boasts a lengthened body from behind the C pillar which increases the load capacity considerably. Meanwhile, the styling traits that distinguish Tivoli are retained, including its sports coupé look, SUV body design and floating roofline.
Tivoli XLV, which according to SsangYong is a capable off-roader, offers the versatility needed to meet individual lifestyles. It is the ideal family car for lugging pushchairs, buggies and cots for children, bikes and golf clubs for the sports-minded, and business equipment during the working week. The car provides a large cabin where five tall adults can travel with ample leg, shoulder and head room.
Although it has not yet been confirmed which powertrains will be available in the UK, it is thought customers will be able to choose from a Euro 6 compliant newly developed e-XGi160 petrol engine that delivers up to 128PS or a 1.6 litre 115PS e-XDi160 diesel engine which is aimed at delivering a powerful performance with enhanced economy. It can achieve emissions of 117g/km (two-wheel drive, manual transmission with Stop/Start).
Buyers can also select from a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed Aisin automatic, two-wheel drive or four wheel drive.
Passenger safety has been a priority for SsangYong and the Tivoli XLV is fitted with seven airbags including front, side and curtain airbags plus a driver’s knee airbag, Active Rollover Protection, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, multi-function Electronic Stability Program and Emergency Stop Signal, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a warning reminder on all five seat belt positions.
The vehicle is available in eight exterior colours, which can be personalised further through the addition of two-tone body and roof colours.
