Fiat Sedici 1.6 Eleganza 5dr

Fiat’s first venture into the highly competitive sports utility vehicle market has certainly caused a few rival manufacturers to send their designers scurrying back to the drawing board.

Whilst the Sedici will never really compete with the mighty off-roading, gas-guzzling giants that we often see on the everyday school run, it is taking on the soft roaders and making a real impact.

Boasting smooth and attractive lines with snazzy roof rails, the Sedici is crammed with quality features including air conditioning, a great sound system, electric windows, remote central locking and plenty more creature comforts to make each and every journey that little bit special.

Comfort levels are very good and the driver benefits from excellent all-round visibility thanks to the high-seated driving position.

The cabin is very spacious and can easily accommodate five adults and the generously-sized luggage compartment means they can bring along all their travel essentials too.

In and around town, the Sedici was a real pleasure to drive and parking in tight spaces was an absolute breeze.

Then, out on the open road, it performed well although I did feel it lacked a little power at times. However, alternative models do come with a 1.9 MultiJet engine which would certainly add that extra bit of oomph.

The Sedici can cope with all driving conditions thanks to the choice of drive features. By flicking a switch the car can easily be altered from two-wheel-drive to four-wheel-drive and back again.

And as one might expect, Fiat has fitted the Sedici with a plethora of safety features including anti-lock brakes, electronic stability programme, numerous airbags and an immobiliser to keep away any uninvited attention.

So when you add in the excellent fuel and economy figures, plus the attractive asking price, it’s clear to see why the Sedici is taking the SUV market by storm.
