Test Drive
Peugeot 807 Executive 2.0 HDi 136 FAP
Boasting more space than the USS Enterprise could explore, the Peugeot 807 is a multi-purpose vehicle on a mission.
You see this vehicle has it all. There’s real quality in the equipment level, the safety spec is first class and performance doesn’t disappoint either.
The Executive model supplied for my test drive is the flagship model in the range and is crammed with creature comforts such as automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable heated seats with memory settings, a great entertainment package including DVD player and even tinted windows to add that little bit of mystery to the mix.
But it’s Peugeot’s utilisation of every inch of space that is so impressive. Even the handbrake is tucked away to the right of the driver’s seat which opens up a huge unobstructed space between the front seats. The seat configuration can be adapted every which way so transporting bulky or unusually-shaped items is made easy.
Quite often when I test an MPV, the versatility of the vehicle results in a less impressive performance. However, this is not the case with the 807.
The 2.0-litre engine was very responsive and despite its size, the vehicle was actually very agile and easy to manoeuvre. The driver benefits from superb all-round visibility thanks to the high-seated driving position and there is a light and airy feel to the cabin for all occupants.
Another feature worth mentioning on the 807 are the sliding doors. Obviously, this is a vehicle for the active family that loves the outdoor lifestyle so access to rear seats even in the tightest of parking spaces is a real bonus thanks to doors that easily slide open.
The 807 is fully equipped with a host of safety features including anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, emergency brake assist, electronic stability programme, numerous airbags and plenty more. And there is an effective security package to keep any uninvited attention at bay.
All in all, the 807 is never going to be that appealing to the business driver and it won’t leave many cars standing at the lights, but there is certainly a place in today’s market for this great people carrier.
