Nissan 350Z 3.5 V6 Roadster with GT pack
Nissan may not be the first manufacturer that springs to mind when talking about sporty little numbers, but the 350Z proves it should certainly be a contender.
Normally renowned for quite conservative construction designs, this beautifully-crafted vehicle even knocked the Audi TT off the “top-looker” spot at the Auto Express awards and if you take a second to study its gorgeous lines it’s clear to see why.
Designed to stand out in any crowded car park, the 350Z boasts a whole array of quality features, an outstanding ride and even a price tag that will keep you on speaking terms with your bank manager.
In fact, after a week-long test drive of the roadster model, I was struggling to pick fault with this little cracker.
The test car was supplied with the GT pack which meant the addition of heated and electrically-operated seats, a six CD in-dash changer, quality sat nav, cruise control and a whole lot more besides. And another bonus in our ever-changing climate is the roof which can be raised or lowered in just 20 seconds.
Cleary, the 350Z does have a somewhat limited market appeal as it’s a sports car in every sense of the word. There are just two seats and those occupants will need to travel fairly light too as the storage areas are quite restricted.
But for that small sacrifice you are rewarded with a car that has a top speed limited to 155mph and can deliver blistering pace from a standing start. Road-holding is exceptional even on slippery surfaces and the 3.5-litre V6 engine delivers ample power for an edge-of-the-seat ride. The six-speed gearbox was also most responsive and with a host of safety features included, the 350Z really produces an excellent drive.
My only complaint came during a heavy downpour when I found visibility a little restricted.
But that aside, what a car and don’t forget to check that price – you will be pleasantly surprised.
